Thac Bo Cave is located in the Chua mountain range, on the bank of Da River in Bung hamlet, Ngoi Hoa commune, Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province.
In the dry season, visitors will have to climb nearly 100 steps from the foot of the mountain to the cave entrance. But in the full water season, visitors can easily go from the boat to the floating house, and cross the pontoon bridge made of bamboo trunks about 50m long to the stone steps leading up to the cave.
The cave has a depth of more than 100m. The cave floor is uneven, and undulating with wide and narrow areas, the widest place is up to 20m. The cave is divided into three large chambers. The first chamber is spacious and airy, with a high ceiling, arranged like a waiting room or a large living room. The stalactite blocks on both sides of the wall are not many but very unique, they are not distributed separately but form large clusters that remind us of abstract paintings. In particular, on the west wall, with the mark of time passing, it has left us with a large stalactite block in the shape of a carp turning into a dragon.
In the dry season, the lake has no water, only when the Da River rises and overflows through the cave entrance, the lake is full of water. The water is not deep, but very clear, visitors can admire countless schools of fish swimming - fish from the river follow the water into the cave. Crossing the lake, visitors will be stunned to admire the fairy scenes inside. It can be said that this is the most special place, the center, the soul of Thac Bo Cave. All the wonders and splendor of the cave are hidden inside, stepping in here, the first feeling of visitors will be stunned and overwhelmed: The whole forest of stalactites race to grow up, reach down, with strange shapes, attracting visitors.
If you have the opportunity to visit Mai Chau, don't forget to list Thac Bo Cave on your "must-visit" list, you definitely won't regret it!
